There are many reasons why learning to read is vital for young learners. Perhaps most importantly, reading is the foundation for all future academic success. Once a child learns to read, they can learn other subjects such as math, science, and history. Reading also opens worlds of imagination and creativity and helps children develop critical thinking.
So, how can we make reading lessons more enjoyable and spark a desire to read in young students? One way to engage students is by having guest speakers visit the class - for example, a children's author who visit schools and tell stories enjoyably and interactively. This can help show students the value of reading and how much fun it can be.
I'm thrilled to recognize the fantastic educators and students at Stonegate Elementary School, Running Brook Elementary School and Park Heights Academy. During my recent book reading event with Milo, it was heartwarming to witness the joy on the students' faces as we read our story together. Thank you for your warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. I hope to visit again soon!
I am a
speech pathologist
and a children's book author. My focus is helping young children with their communication skills, including speech, language, social communication, alternative communication, literacy, and written expression. I use fun and engaging exercises to develop confidence and establish foundational skills needed for a lifetime of communication.
As a children's book author who visits schools, my joy comes from making stories accessible to children and reinforcing learning themes in a fun and relatable ways. This is why I authored a storybook, "The Courageous Lion in Milo." The protagonist Milo is a relatable character who shows kids that they can do anything they set their minds. Through a reading and fun discussion, I support your lessons by reinforcing the importance of patience, perseverance, and persistence when tackling new challenges.
The classroom visits' structure and content are intended for pre-K through 2nd-grade learners.
I can accommodate any class size, but I've found that 8-30 is a good number for my format and allows me to engage with all students.
I work with both general classes and special needs classrooms.
Classroom visits are suitable throughout the school year.
